-Babe Ruth was an American professional baseball player whose career in Major League Baseball spanned 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. Nicknamed The Bambino and The Sultan of Swat, he began his career as a stellar left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees.
Ruth is regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture and is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time. In 1936, Ruth was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame as one of its "first five" inaugural members.
The works of artist Michael Gittes are found in several notable private collections associated with the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Hammer Museum, and his own solo show at New York’s Park Avenue Armory. Often rendering his subjects with a paint-filled syringe while focusing on aspects of Western history and culture, Gittes’ works are a personal study of select ageless styles in art history - with that modern playfully abstract twist that Gittes is best known for.
"I always start from an image, whether it's a photograph I took, or something I found on the Internet. Then I take measurements of its proportions and map its mirror image. Then I'll fill my syringe, trace my own drawing, and press it "
